No trailer tilt switch

I have a new to me boat with a Volvo Penta SX outdrive. The control unit has a switch for trim, but no additional switch or button to activate trailer mode. With the boat on the trailer and outdrive trimmed up as far as it will go, there is only 6 or 7 inches of clearance between the skeg and the ground. The trailer bunks are already raised as high as they can go. Would installing a transom tilt switch like the following allow me to raise it to trailer height? Any other suggestions?

Welcome aboard.

Try pushing the trim up switch a little harder,. On some it's a double action switch - First light push is trim up and a harder push takes it past a detent to close the trailer switch.

some are like GA describes, however most VP's I have come across have the trigger switch under the throttle that you must use in conjunction with the thumb switch.

I've tried pushing the trim switch in every which way, to no avail. I think my next step will be to apply 12v directly to the tilt motor to see if will go any higher before installing a switch.

Usually either a double press or on older VP hold in the trailer button and trim button.

Sometimes there is a “over ride” button on the instrument panel and you have to hold it down while using the control handle switch.

That control looks identical to mine and There is no switch or button on mine. The up and down switch on the end of the control lever takes it all the way from full "IN" to full "UP" (trailer position). Travel limits are set by stops inside the trim cylinders (non adjustable). I suspect your's is the same if you don't have a separate trim limit control.

Thanks everyone for the info. I think I've come to the conclusion that it's up as far as it goes. I'm going to look into getting some larger wheels for the trailer to gain a little more height.

Ski - How level is the trailer when on the ball? Is it higher in front than the rear?

Fluid is topped off. I'm currently running a 6" drop, which has the slightly higher than level. I also tried with a 8" drop which put the tongue just below level. The gave me a little bit more clearance, but I still scraped pulling out of my driveway. Here it is in the full up position.
