no up trim while cruising

I am running a 1988 searay with mercruiser and alpha drive.

My outdrive will not trim up while cruising. Trim controls work great on the trailer or trolling. Triming down is never a problem.

It appears the pump can not lift any weight. Is there a rebuild kit for the pump or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Cleaning help?

Ray, has the trim worked properly while you have owned it?if the boat is new to you i would check that the trim lines are connected to the pump correctly.black hose on the left fitting of the pump and the gray on the right .then check at the drive .front hose on cyls. go to the port closest to the boat. hope this helps.

John, the boat is new to me. I had to rebuild the cylinders (housings were cracked due to water freezing). I drained everything and ran fresh fluid through the pump and then assembled with fresh fluid.

Does one side of the pump put out more pressure than the other.

Will try reversing the lines, althought the direction is right for the controls.

pump can't develop enough pressure to overcome the thrust of the prop while crusing. don't know if there is a rebuild kit or not. check in the mega mall above and try shad conneciton. high $ item to replace it all.

ther are repiar kits for each part of the pump there is and up high pressure bypass valve and a down high pressure by pass valve if the bypass is not allowing enough pressure to get to the tilt cylinders it will not move under load the oil will just recycle inside the pump

if you rebuilt the cylinders it is possable they are leaking in side

but if you start looking at part prices the price of a new pump starts to look better because its easy to spend more on parts than a new aftermarket pump costs

tommays

Re: no up trim while cruising

someone will correct me if i am wrong, the up pressure is around 2500 psi and the down is around 600. therefore the plumbing has to be correct or you will get the problem that you have .also you mention that the cyls.were damaged by freezing.if water sat in the pump you probably have a bad pump if the hoses are connected properly.
