No water coming out

Have a 1988 or 1989 Classic Fifty mercury outboard, took out this weekend ,and noticed no water coming out the "pee hole", but there was exhaust coming out, so know the line is not clogged. It was working when I first started it. Does this mean my water pump is not working? And if this is the case, can a handyman such as myself put a new water pump kit in, without knowledge of working on boat engines before? or better left for the experts?

Yes your water pump needs repair and if your handy get a manual and repair it, it's quite simple

It is also possible the hole is clogged. Try to see if it is clogged first. Insects like to climb up there.

be carefull to get a fresh rebuild kit. I got you for my 85 60hp and the box was very dusty, impeller failed quickly.
