No water flow.......

I have a 1989 Force 125HP Outboard motor that is just being brought out of storage. I was not getting any water flow through to the exhaust ports. I have replaced the entire water pump assembly. Took the boat to the dock, backed into the water, started no problem but no water flow?? Shut down went to re-start but the overheat buzzer came on. Brought it back home, took it all apart ~ impellor just desinigrated and the water pump housing is cracked. The engine has no problem turning over and starting, just no water flow. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Weeble,

I have a 1988 Force 125 and I've found this site to be very helpful in sizing up schematics and parts prior to digging deeper into the engine.

Start Here, Find and click on your Model #for schematics and part details & pricing
http://www.dolleroffshore.com/parts.cfm?c=mv&m=6

Here is a Sample: 89 Force 125 Gear Housing
http://www.dolleroffshore.com/parts.cfm?c=btp&m=6&pn=1487&r=7170

Regards,
Kevin

Re: No water flow.......

Something went really wrong with the pump replacement or the parts were poor quality.

Re: No water flow.......

Kevin,

Many thanks for the links ~ I hve been "living" at that site the last few days. Unfortunately I am having extreme difficulties finding parts around here (Canada).

Jim,
I am beginning to wonder myself just how long this part had been sitting around? I am beside myself trying to figure out why I am getting no water flow ...... Getting very frustrated. So much for enjoying my holidays, have spent 3 days on the boat already. Between driving all over to find parts and putting things back together....

Re: No water flow.......

Weeble, it's very important that the pump be sealed completely during reaasembly. This usually entails using some hardening Permatex SPARINGLY where the housing sits against the wear plate. It's important that none of the sealer gets inside the pump housing. Good luck.

This might sound foolish but,is it possible that mice
could have gotten into the motor and blocked the passages. Also when you replaced the impeller and pum p the first time was it broken apart? I've had little pieces go up and block the water flow.was this motor stored out side or inside?
are you putting a little grease or soap detergent on the impeller when installing?

Rich

Re: No water flow.......

well i would like to thank everyone for their help with the waterflow problem :) ....... i think there was something blocking the exhaust ports........backed the boat into the water this time and left it strapped onto the trailer......started the motor......still no water flow......shut it down immediately......waited a few minutes tried again....still nothing...by this time getting very frustrated.....so i slam her into forward gear.....as by this time i'm ready to push the truck and trailer out with boat.....the wife says still nothing......then as i went to shut it down...WHAM!!!! water shooting out at least 4 feet out of the ports......thanks again
