I have a 1985 Johnson 25Hp outboard that is not spitting out any water from the water indicator hose. I removed the hose from the exhaust cover nipple and tried to blow through the nipple, with no luck. I can blow through the water indicator hose. Should I beable to blow air through the exhaust cover nipple? Should I drop the lower unit and try blowing up through the water tube from the bottom?

Thanks in advance.

Re: No Water pumping out

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I replaced the water pump last season, and I wouldn't think that it would be bad already. I only put maybe 10 hours on the engine last season.

Thanks

I would simply remove the fitting from the engine and clear out any obstructions that would restrict waterflow.

Drop the lower unit. Inspect the impeller for cracks, damage, missing chunks. Replace if needed.
You never know if you might have sucked up some debris that damaged it.

Remove the thermostat and try flushing the engine with a garden hose, from the top down. Then flush with hose from the bottom up, by holding the hose against the water tube.
