No1 cylinder wet, and fuel / oil from carb when tilted up 30hp 88/89 "e" model

Hi all,

Been having a few issues with my motor of late, not reving when underway, but will rev when sat at the mooring and the prop is off.

Anyway, im getting allot of miss fire issues with the motor and no 1 cylinder is constantly wet but I have a very very good spark.
Dont want to bin the motor as it starts and fires like a good un, just the constant little problem after little problem, like the underfly wheel ignition system constanlty working loose, mounts going etc etc.

I am trying the prop for slip later this week when the tides are with me incase that is the issue with motor not reving while under way, max spped is around 10 knts on a 17ft semi displacement boat with me and the fishing gear aboard.

Any ideas before i consighn the motor to the shed for later reworking or scrapping

If you've really got good spark and the plug is always wet then you prob don't have consistent fire to that plug. Maybe it stops firing once the motor gets warm.

How is the ignition system getting loose? Can you locktite the screws/bolts? Obviously, your ignition working loose is causing the misfires etc.

Hi,

Decided to try my spare power head from a 84 model, just tracking down a new gasket set this side of the pond and carb kit etc as the water jacket from the stat and temp sender in the head.

The ignition system has always been a pain in my rear, did loctite it down last time ........... but being the underflywheel unit it aint that reliable

The compression on the spare is 100 +100 where as mine was from memory around 65 ish each for each cylinder.

will keep you all informed

Well back to the drawing board ................... some one on the spare had never flushed it out, on the exhaust plate, 9 bolts snapped and beind was totaly encased in salt, one piston has major scorring so back to square 1.

I have managed to get out all of the damaged studs ......... phew having checked the pistons the scorring is really not that bad and the compression is equal on both cylinders at 100psi / 7bar.

Now is this any good compression wise is this any good ??? for and electric start motor, also looking through the manual I cant find any refernace to the correct compression ? only that it should not differ by more than 15psi between cylinders.
