Hi to all,
This is my first post. I have been hanging around the form, lots of great info. My question is, I have a 93 3.0L Mercruiser with manual steering. I check and grease the u-joints every season and grease the gimble bearing two to three times a season. The problem is when I turn the steering wheel full lock right or left I get this slapping or knocking sound that comes from the outdrive at low RPM, even at idle speed. It only does it at full lock. When I ease up on the steering wheel, the drive is quiet. Is this normal? I have never changed the bearing or the u-joints. They always check good and are always greased.
Thanks for any help.
Bob

you also can hear the same noise if you start your engine with the drive raised, which is not a good thing to do
