Depends on how high you raise it. normal trim setting are ok, trailer is a no. puts stess on the U joints.when was the drive off last for service?

Re: noise in outdrive

i just got the boat and replaced the impellar. i ran the motor before i replaced the impeller and dont recall the noise but the outdrive may have been down at the time. the noise is loud at full tilt but goes away gradually as i lower the unit. may just be the stress on the ujoints. this is my first boat but i have been around em and dont ever recall this

Re: noise in outdrive

Don't run the boat in full trailer position. That's most likely why you are getting a noise in the outdrive. Like Doctur says, it puts stress on the U-Joints, and it could lead you to problems in the near future.

According to my Mercruiser Manual, it isn't recommended to have the outdrive in trailer position above 1200 RPMs. If you have to run in trailer position, don't run it in that position for long, and keep under the recommended RPMs.
