I have a 1988 22' Seaswirl with a 5.7 260HP I/O.
It has through the hull exhaust, with two chrome pipes protruding through the transom. Its a great boat and sounds like a stock car going up the river. Not too condusive to casual cruising.

Is there something I can do to quiet this down? Would there be a problem redirecting the exhaust through the outdrive? If so, can I use the existing parts? Will there be a drastic performance loss? Will this cause damage to the ourdrive?

Any suggestions good or bad would be appreciated.

Welcome to iboats.

You can get a system where you can direct the exhaust out the back or thru the prop with the flip of a switch. You lose a little performance going thru the prop, but you'll appreciate the relative quiet when you're not wanting the noise.

You could go back to the original setup, with no problems. Just plug the 2 thru the transom holes were the exhaust was and hook up the exhaust risers to the Y pipe that goes out the bottom of the transom shield. The big question is how much of the original exhaust system is still in your boat.
Do you have a Mercruiser, Volvo, OMC, or something else??
You can also get exhaust silencer tips for some makes of exhaust. Check the link below.

Corsa Exhaust Systems

Re: Noisy Exhaust Seaswirl 5.7 OMC Help.

Quaoptic:
I have a similar issur with my 7.4L mercruiser. The straight tips are just too loud. Kind of like open the headers that NASCAR uses.
I looked into adding the switch / captains call but have no Y pipe or anything to start with. Marina tells me "no prob" we just pull the motor, add the kit, and labor. $2 grand please. Well....no thanx, at least not without trying something else first.
They are not installed yet, but I went with silencer tips for about $300.
We shall see, but these will not interfere with the captains call, even if I do not get enough reduction.
Trouble is I won't know till spring.....

The outdrive is a OMC King Cobra. It appears to have the original exhaust "Y" leading to the outdrive. I think I can use the existing "hoses" and reconnect to the outdrive exhaust, and simply "plugging" the Hull exhaust ports? (?)

My last comment was intended to be more of a question than a statement.
