Am I missing something here? The t-stat housing on my Chevy 350 has a thermostat in it, but it does not appear to be removable. The housing is one piece and the t-stat is in the middle of it. My other stringer drive has a two piece t-stat housing.

Do I have to replace the whole housing when the thermostat goes bad?

Did you look for an o-ring holding it in place?

They get a bit encrusted and look like part of the casting.

Very good. I thought it was one piece until I started ripping the crust off. Does a new thermostat come with a new o-ring?

It should but ask when you order...
