Non Slip Paint Question

I was thinking about painting the inside of my 14' Starcraft with some non-skid paint. My question is, do I have to use a non-skid paint from a marine store (around $70 gallon) or can I use the non-skid paint from Home Depot (about $25 gallon). The paint from HD is latex. What do you all think?

Re: Non Slip Paint Question

Is the inside of the boat currently painted? If not, you'll need to prime it with self-etching primer. Paint doesn't like to stick to aluminum without it.

I would think latex would be a big no-no. However, good old Rustoleum will work great and still be inexpensive.

Re: Non Slip Paint Question

A good quality oil based enamel paint will do what you want. Just pick up some "kids play sand" while you are at your paint store.....Lowes or HDepot one would surmise, and mix a reasonable quantity into the paint.....you decide what reasonable is.

I say kids play sand because it is washed and is just sand, no contaminants. BTDT and it lasts and lasts. Great anti skid for other applications. I put it on my trailer tongue so that I can recover my boat when boating alone and not slide off the tongue attempting to secure the boat to the winch.
