Ok so im going to replace my water pump on my 1983 85 HP FORCE outboard and was looking on iboats for the correct kit. It has me completely comfused, its also called the impellar do i need to just replace it or is there a whole kit that i have to get.

Also do you guys recomend a fuel pump rebuild, i think its been four or five years since its been messed with. The system seems fine but i would liek to be proactive since it is rather old. Thanks for the advice.

Unlrss the aluminum pump housing is badly scored, the only thing you really need to replace is the impeller, And, if you remove the stainless plate under the pump, then you will need to replace the gasket. The upper seal and the locator disc in the pump housing usually do not go bad. Keep the old impeller. They do take a set from sitting but if you want to use the boat on a Saturday or Sunday and have a bad impeller, the old one --unless it is so badly worn that it will not pump water-- will make a good stopgap until you can buy a new one to install.

As for the fuel pump, it is only six screws to remove the cover. Then replace the diaphragm and gasket. While the cover is off, look at the button valves to see any gross damage. They are relatively hardy so if everything looks normal---it is. The diaphragm is only 3 bucks so buy two and keep the other one in the boat. Fuel pump repair can usually be done on the water in an emergency.

If this engine has been sitting for that long, ASSUME that the lower unit lubricant is either contaminated with water or worn out. Drain and replace it as preventive maintenance.

Remove the carb bowls and check for varnish. If they are shiny and clean, (a little staining doesn't matter) put them back on. If they show dried varnish deposits, clean the carbs.
