Noodles for seat foam?

No idea where I am going with the boat I have, whether to repair or pull motor & outdrive and move on.

But have done some thinking / research on foam for seat cushions. I was wondering if it would be reasonable to use noodles for seats.

I am thinking cut them into long squares (could cut to length first to make it easier) and then glue them together. Once you have roughly the correct size cut them to the correct shape.

Closed cell foam is expensive I am finding. I saw some more reasonable that someone mentioned in another thread, on ebay from "the foam guys" but it is not advertised as "closed cell."

"Foam Rubber Sofa Replacement Seat Cushion 24x82x 2 FIRM
100% All New High Density Polyurethane Foam."

So, thoughts on the noodles?

and actually thoughts on this other foam as well?

My initial thought is when compressed the noodle type foam has a memory and doesn't re-expand to its original shape as well as purpose made seating type foam. Others may know better, but I'd be trialling a small piece to see if it works before spending too much effort on the noodle seat foam idea. JMHO. Good luck,

Take one of those canvas shopping bags and fill it with noodles and see what it feels like to sit on it. I would think it wouldn't be really comfortable, but who knows? You may be on to something.

One thing I've heard is to look thorough garage sales or craigslist for beat up or cheap outdoor patio furniture. Pull the foam and just toss the frames.

I like the idea of using the noodles, but I also think it would develop a 'memory.'

Old patio furniture sounds like a good idea.

I'm going to pick one up today and do some simple tests, see what happens.

I have used noodles for leg protectors on my tripods, I carry quite a bit of camera gear with me since I retired from the service and other endeavors, I have started taking pictures to make money, I can tell you for a fact, they are not comfortable when you throw a 25 pound camera and lens over your shoulder, they are no more comfortable, then using nothing at all..one of my camera lenses weighs in at over 25 pounds without a camera body on it..

Try it, they are cheap, but I suspect you will find about the same experience as I have.
