Alright guys so, my loving grandparents passed away within 5 weeks of each other, and i am in the process of fixing up their home, as i will be staying there for a while until the market comes back, so we can sell it, anyway i musta been about 5 years old when this old diving board gave away, the bolts pulled through the fiberglass

Trust me i know this is a boating site, and i might get smited for this, but i was hoping maybe some of you guys could possibly get me in the right direction of restoring this thing...i personally feel that it can be done, and i am including some pictures of what i am dealing with

My questions are can it be done, and cost effective enough not to purchase a new one, if they are still even available

And can i use a boat decking non skid to redo the top of it

If everyone is ok with me posting this here i will include constant updates and photo's of the work in progress

Hopefully the moderators are ok with this

Thanks for reading

Sure it can be done (at least from what I am able to make out from the pics). Appears to be a combination of wood and glass (like a boat!). I guess my Q would be how much is your time worth to you, and how much sentiment do you have for the board? I did a quick search and a new board with stand is under $1k (obviously you could spend as much as you want for one or as little as $500). I am guessing that you'll have a couple hundred dollars in materials and probably close to 40 hours of labor into it (from start to finish). I don't know what the Mod's think of this posting, but if there isn't an issue with it I am sure people here would be happy to offer their assistance. Detailed pics as you progress would be crucial..

it is definately a feeler to see if the mods are ok with this, and if this is ok, and i get some good advice on what i need to do the resto will be happening! I really think it would be a good way to show how to resto a boat, but on a much smaller scale!

well, let's give it a day or so to see what kind of feed back you get... If they are cool with it, then time to start getting materials.. What kind of tools to you have? (sander, grinder, table saw/jig saw, etc..)

I wouldn't fix it, it's too risky.

I had my own business renovating swimming pools, both residential and commercial and when diving boards got to the point where the bolts pulled through and the stands became rusty it was time to scrap them.

You don't want your 220 lb buddy to attempt a big dive and have the stand or board fail. Diving boards create big and numerous lawsuits.

I couldn't imagine going to dive on the fixed board and have it bust/ break off on the end as i am on the downward motion and end up with my back side toward the NOW busted sharp and unrelenting fiberglass( knife) that was once a board.
But this is just my opinion.

Yep, I built pools for 10 years back in the 80's. This is NOT a restoration project. It is a destruction project. Destroy this board and replace it with a new one before someone gets hurt and or sued or both.

Absolutely, positively....do not even consider repairing that thing. Donate it to the nearest landfill.

Looks like there are people much more familiar than me with diving boards (I've never re-built one) and I would listen to them. I guess it would be one thing if you were looking to make a lawn ornament out of it (bench seat, etc), but for practical use I would listen to these guys.. Either scrap it or turn it into a decoration.

Another thing to do is check with your homeowners insurance and make sure that they even allow a diving board. A lot of companies won't anymore. Better safe than sorry.
