recently destroyed my 150 Merc, no# 3 came out through the intake, and cooked the top of the piston, had to replace crank shaft. Have it back together, but not running right, when I pull the plug wires to no# 5 and 6 the RPM's go crazy, and when I pull the plug's they are gas soaked, have raw black gas coming running from exhast. Not sure what year it is, I am guessing in the mid 70's because it times at 21 degrees, it is a 150 inline, any feed back on this would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by go crazy but maybe the
carb for 5/6 is flooding it loads the plugs up and when you pull the wires it allows hotter spark to ignite the gas??

I like steelespike's thinkin'. Check the needle, seat and float in the lower carb. Also, after a major, you need to re-establish TDC and do a sync and link.

c/6

Hooty

Re: not burning gas

Compresion doesnt varry more than 2 pnds in all 6, as to the rpms going crazy I mean at idle around 1200, pull plug wire no#5 rpms go to 27, pull plug 6 and they go to 3800, put 5 back on and it drops back down to 2700.went through carbs again and evry thing set to specs. And as for finding tdc did that too. But also learned tonight that its a good posiibility that I have a warped internal exhaust plate. Found that in an old CDI trouble shooting guide.
