Not getting any spark??

I have the 71' GM inline 6 engine in my boat and i did the Hot Spark conversion from points to electronic ignition. I wasnt getting any (and still not after conversion) power out of the cap and wires. I have power out of my coil though. Cap and wires, and plugs are new. Im lost!!!

Explain power out of the coil. Out of what, how do you know?

i put a test light in the wire going from the coil to the cap. theres power there but theres no power out of any of the plug wires when its getting turned over

Did you replace the rotor too?

Do this.
Remove the coil wire from the center of the distributor cap. Hold the end of the wire about 1/2" from a good clean (Not Painted) ground and crank the engine over. Do you have a bright blue spark that snaps across the gap?

ill check it tomm. my boats not at my house. the coil is a brand new 45000v coil. the rotor is new too

question, on the rotor theres 2 pieces, one gets the spark from the coil the other distributes the power to each wire. the piece that gets the power coming in is that supposed to be touching the cap in the center or is it not supposed to touch and it arcs off of it?

There is supposed to be a graphite pin about 1/8" dia. that is spring loaded in the cap, and pushes down on the center contact of the rotor.

So my problem all along was the power wire coming from the key must have been corroded. Ran a new wire to the coil and problem solved. And that points to electronic ignition i did from Hot Spark is nice, starts right up with no worries. Im posting another thread on new problems that i found but im slowly getting this thing done
