Ok first of all I am at the my end of my rope trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with my motor.
I have a 1987 Mercury 3 cylinder 90 HP .. My problem is that it will not pick up speed I guess they may call it pick up plane, not sure.. But I give it throttle and the motor revs up and sounds good but all I can travel is 10 to 15 mph.. when imp supposed to be going 45 Mph.. At times as the motor is revved and I am speeding off lol it sputters like if it wanted to engage ( by this I mean like it wants to pick up and go fast with an occasional burst of speed, but nothing.) Now before the ideals start coming in I would like to mention that the following has been done to the motor. Rebuilt carbs, fuel pump has been redone (kit), new spark plugs, and a new trigger assembly.. The old one had a corroded wire.. The gas is new, and the oil is good.. New gas filter, changed out all the hoses for the gas lines and oil. All the wires seem to be in good condition . I have had this problem for quite a while and it would pick up speed from time to time and work fine until lately but tired of putting up with it.. I have put allot of $$ in it and am not wanting buy a new one yet..( one and half years more then a new boat.). But for now I have this one.. Oh I have a Clymer manual and the specs are all good? combustion on #1 117 #2 115 and #3 113.. The spark is good and the the carbs have been adjusted to 1 ? open to start, the timing is at 4 btdc.. I am lost and Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
