1994 Aluminum Starcraft that has several soft spots, I taped one off to show how large it is. Also, screws to secure seats and componants to the floor won't tighten. I think I need to relace the entire floor.

I have read some posts about using AB 1/2" plywood and putting fiberglass on both sides to help protect it. I have all the tools (jigsaw, sabersaw, tablesaw, etc)

My first question is do I just cut the old floor out?

If you notice the lip along the floor, how am I going to get the new floor under that lip?

Thanks in advance

You stated "several soft spots" well....

It's just my opinion but I would just plan on doing it right. Do the whole floor with marine plywood, stainless screws and new carpet (or whatever you feel would be a good floor). Getting the plywood under the lip should not be a challange as long as you use the same thickness of replacement wood.

Just a suggestion - if you remove the floor completely it will give you the opportunity to replace the foam and insure no future leaks. Obviously water got trapped in there and we should be able to guide you through a cure for that too.

just did a Bluefin Spectrum, when you drill out the rivets around the outer edges the side panels will flex enough for you to get the floor in under them. i used stainless screws to reattach.

That lip should not be a problem. It should be able to bend out of the way. I personnally would not put fiiberglass on it. That stuff is a pain to work with. I would put a good marine paint on the sides and bottom of the ply. On the top I would put the Bass pro shops 'TUFF COAT'. But that is just because I dislike carpet in a boat. If you want carpet put marine paint on the top and then install the carpet. The tuff coat stuff is like a marine paint with little rubber flakes in it to help with traction.

Oh and dont install the floor with drywall screws. Use Stainless Steel.

I had the very same boat! It was called the brown Hornet LOL All here have given good sugesstions...I used marine ply 5 ply to be exact and sealed it with thompsons..sounds hokey but I own a carppentry buisness and I used it religously for exterior miters and butt joints...... then apply what you want over it carpet etc. The nice part is you will be able to take that floor out in whole pieces...this is important because you will have perfect templates.... Home depot is carrying marine grade carpet that will resist hook snags....I just did my 18' Sea Nymph with it I love it !!

Any suggestions on how to get my pictures to show up?
They are JPEG pictures that have been shrunk and for some reason they come up as a red X.

Oh.... and be sure you edit the pics at photobucket to 1/4 size before posting, if you don't the pics come out huge and make the post all but impossible to read.

Check ebay. I just purchased a 1988 140 HP Evinrude for $1700 The sweet thing about the deal, a 1982 Glastron Carlson and it's galvanized trailer came with the motor. Just needs a little tlc and it will make one nice boat. So check ebay, you may have to drive a little ways to get it but in my case I think a trip to sourthern GA. from NC was worth the trip.

Click on the little icon above the reply box that looks like the world with glasses. paste link there.

Works for everything except a link that has commas in it... that you have to use html (instead of bbcode) and then modify the link it throws up (not going there today 8)
