I cant beleive it, on the way in to work this morning the heater core goes out in my truck! 93 Ranger 4X4! Core is cheap enough, $28.00, The only thing is that you have to pull the dash out to change it! So, Now I miss a day of work to fix it! Still cheaper than having to get it fixed at the dealer! $500. to $1000! Go figure!

Now I have a boat that dosnt run right, and a broken truck!!

When it rains it pours!!!

LubeDude

LubeDude,

Are you sure about having to remove the dash?

A freind of mine had a 90 Ranger 4X4, and we were able to remove the heating system from under the hood.

Maybe they changed that since '90.

Check with a local radiator shop, they usually don't charge an arm and a leg for that kind of service, especially if you have A/C, because if you have to take out that dash, the A/C system will need to be recovered.

Save your day off to go fishin or something.

I just thought I could save you some labor, but I guess not.

What about having a radiator shop doing it?

Good luck with that project.

I hear that LubeDude!

I would still get a price from a rad shop before you jump into that project, you might be surprised.

And if your not surprised, then you can tackle it yourself.

Just trying to give ya an option, cuz that is probably a 2 day project, removeing the dash and all.

Anyway, best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

Re: Now this problem!! (RANT)!!!!

Thanks KenneyKenCan for your replys and trying to help, But quess what? I was looking at the 95s and up, the 93-94 have an access cover under the dash with four bolts and its out!! :D :D Wish Id thought of that!! So why did they change for the newer years? I suppose too many people were doing it themselves, we cant have that so we will make it harder, (Next to impossable) so they have to bring it in to the dealer to fix!

At least my whole day wont be shot!!

Thanks everyone for the help!!

LubeDude

LubeDude, I guess I was lucky, my evaporator coil sprung a leak. I can live without air conditioning, but it is hard to take clients out to lunch without it in summer.
1998 Olds Intrigue.
Evaporator coil $240
Labor 6 hours minimum
Dash removal required.

Now let me tell you about the steering gear with a broken tooth. Happened while on vacation in the middle of nowhere. Almost hit the ditch when the steering wheel would not respond.
New steering gear $998 Plus 2 hours labor. When they pulled it into the shop, the airbag sensor in the steering gear was moved too far becaus of the new steering wheel position. Another Couple hundred for that. I went with aftermarket parts and got by with an $1,100 bill. Good thing I had a credit card with that much free. Same vehicle.
