Well, my O ring problem is still alive and well. Went to the dealer today. It seems that in order to get the o-rings, I need to buy the fuel line set which is $126.00! For petes sake all I need is 6 of them.

The only thing I know to do is go back to NAPA and see if they can match them up. Any other ideas? (besides having a Intrepid BBQ)

This project has only reminded me why I hate working on cars. Its not the work, but finding the stuff one needs. :( Plus, I refuse to buy stuff that I don't need................SS

Caterpillar Dealers have an excellent selection of O-rings by size along with a variety of material. You'll need to find a decent parts guy there who wants to help a little guy out, but again they have a huge variety. Color does sometimes correspond with material . . .

Ohio Cat locations

Re: Now What Do I Do?

SS, O-rings are sized by ID and cross section. Most applications use standard sizes. You can gage the ID using a drill bit shank. The cross section can be determined (roughly) by measuring the OD subtracting the ID and dividing the answer by 2. There is a O-ring distributor in the Cleveland area by the name of Buckeye Rubber, call them when you determine the size. Even if your measurements are only close they can tell you the correct size. Also tell them the application and they will recommend a compound. Cost, providing it's not some exotic compound should be minimal less than $10.00. If you need more help let me know, I'll give you my E-mail address so you can contact me. Good Luck.

Re: Now What Do I Do?

When you were at the dealer did they say anything about a recall involving the fuel rail for the '97? In 2000 I went through a fuel rail recall for a '94 or '95 (can't remember) Intrepid. Not sure what they replaced but might be worth the call if they didn't already say something about it.

Hope it helps
Matt

Re: Now What Do I Do?

Sorry RP, those are the ones for the injectors to the fuel rail. What I need is the ones for the fuel line to the fuel rail. I did go back to one of the mechanics at the Mopar dealer and asked him. He grinned at me and said yep, they use generic over the counter Orings. Gave me the size that is needed and went back to NAPA. Got them, and now to find time to put them in. Hopefully this takes care of the fuel leak. Now the big question, "Is it gonna run since I had the heads off it"! Thanks for the help. You guys are great.
