For us folks here on the right coast its that time of year when we get our toys ready for hibernation. I swear I heard a whimper from the SS Pooter as I prepare to send her into hibernation.
I am sure you folks on the left coast will keep letting us know how good the fishn is as we look on with envy until the spring thaw..
Just wondering what some of you do during this time when you aren't fishn?

Re: Now What

gonfishn,

ain't time to put away the boat yet! There is still a couple of months till the ice forms over the water! Still many hunting places to get to that walkers and non-boaters cannot find. There isn't much that is more exhilerating than to pull into a cove, beat your "throttle arm" till the ice breaks off your coat sleeve and you can move it again, and pick up your smoke stick and head into the woods looking for Mr. Big Buck. Man, 40+ mph in near 0 degree weather can really get the blood pumping.

So, don't put it away yet, there is still a lot of use left in her! You paid good money for that boat, use it as many months as possible!

Re: Now What

We still have plenty of fishing time here.
It's hunting season right now, so the boat is in dry-dock (carport :D )

I'm waiting for a local lake (Klamath) to get a good cold snap. The monster trout really start biting good when it cools off.

In the meantime, the Salmon and Steelhead are thick in the river. In fact, a friend just caught a 15 pounder Friday. Looks like we are having another record run of fish up the Rogue River.

I figure a trip or two to Klamath Lake for the lake trout, and hopefully squeeze one more crabbing trip to the coast before I button the boat up for the winter.

H.

Re: Now What

hmmm this is a sad time of year to be sure. i have both boats all winterized and put away. usually i dont put away till mid november. but alot of stuff going on now plus a trip to key west next week, just figured it was time to put it away. mostly what i do in the winter is alot of woodworking in my garage. do a little ice fishing but it has to be a pretty nice day. i also like to do a few cribbage tournaments in the winter. but i guess mostly i just try to stay warm. :D :D

Re: Now What

Its getting around that time of year here.
Saturday was opening day for general Elk. And
White tail opens on Nov 1. So last weekend may
have been my last boating day. No luck on
saturday with the Elk thing, I did stumble across
a cow Moose and her calf and a couple of Muley
doe's. The weather has been unbeatable this fall.
Normally I would be forced to put the boat away.
At this time of year Ice fishing would be just 3
or 4 weeks away. But its hunting season now. So
unless I get my animals soon,I wont be fishing
till ice up. And at this rate it likely wont be
any time soon, nothing is moving, its way to warm
the animals are bedded down.We need a heavy frost
and some snow to get them moving that will get me
back to my fishn rods sooner.

Re: Now What

I love boating and fishing but not during hunting season. Looks like I'm done till next spring with the pontoon. And the hovercraft will proabably get waylaid till mid november due to hunting and other obligations. Cant feel to bad about that though cause aftewr all it was intended as a winter project.

I got the ski's all sharpened and waxed, both sets.

Just waiting for the snow to fall and I'll be heading upstate or Vermont to swish some packed powder.

Would love to get out to Colorado or Reno NV to swish some nice deep powder, but I'll have to wait and see who I can get to go out there with!

Also plan on getting nearer to completion, the repairs to my '94 Lotus Espris Twin Turbo!

Boy do I want to drive that car next summer!

Kenny

Re: Now What

Raining here today, so I am not working on the house today - will be tonight (drywallers and HVAC guys in there hogging up all the room right now). But that is why there is a heated garage in the new house - so I never have to winterize - just wrap the lower unit in insulation to get me the 6 miles from the launch ramp to the garage and I am good to go! :D

I know, my wife says I am a bit crazy too!
