Have Mercruiser Alpha One, trying to remove lower unit in order to replace impeller. Have gotten all of the nuts and screws out(funny sidenote, doesn't appear there was a screw under trim tab, maybe somebody didn't put it back), except starboard side nut. Won't budge and it is starting to strip. Any suggestions? If I had to cut it off, could it be replaced once unit is off?

try pb blaster or liquid wrench. let sit awhile while the stuff works (overnight). pb blaster is available at autoparts stores. if your nut is facing down, might be a problem to apply and keep it there. might try metric socket on nut. heat gun or hair dryer could expand nut a little.

The nut is easily replaced but the stud is something you dont want to cut into. You can drill some small holes in the nut or try to heat it a little to get it moving.Charlie
