Has anyone had any experience using an ELM327 WiFi interface with an android tablet using a torque app? This looks like an inexpensive alternative to buying a high end scan tool.

I have been using a free app that I downloaded, if you take the time to search, there are lots of solutions to this.

I bought something similar on ebay awhile ago to play with. Was an unreliable piece of junk.

I have the autoenginuity scanner. Not inexpensive but one of the best you can get for the price.

Yeah, that is where I was looking too. A wifi interface sells for less than $30 and a usb interface sells for about $12 with software. I have a scanner but was looking for something (to play with) a little fancier. I'm just curious. I guess it is too cheap to be any good.

I've got one of those elm scanners (usb) and haven't had any issues with it. The secret is finding decent software to use with it since the stuff that comes with most of them is junk. Although I use them on a windows laptop

When I was playing with one, it wasn't the software because I was actually using the actual Toyota software.

I also have one of those usb interface elm scanners. Tried several different free software programs and ended up buying OBD2 Spy to try to get things to work very well. Still not satisfied, and should have bought the AutoEnginuity. What kind of software are you using oldjeep?

I was looking at an android app called "Torque lite". Any thoughts?

Easy OBD2 is the one that I use. I think it cost about $20 for the full version

Well just for laughs and giggles I ordered the USB interface ($12)and the wifi interface($24) and the APP for $4.99. A bored old man has to have something to play with!

Update. Finally had time to fool with this. Found out my Nextbook will not talk to TCB wi-fi devices. I tried my desktop PC and it works fine, just have to run inside of house to see it. The software that came with it is just a trial demo so now I am looking for a recommendation for some inexpensive software. I don't need anything complex...just want to see codes and sensor data.

I use the ELM327 and "Torque" on my Android smart phone. I can't say enough good things about Torque. Works great!
