Obvious question about the 400 tilt quadrant

I finally got around to finishing the tilt on my machine (after a shaft break... arghhh) and it seemed to be fine... but now it just kind of works.

When I was putting the tilt quadrant back on, I noticed that the very end of the gear, where it kind of sticks out like a penisula, was slightly cracked, and that it was at an ever so slightly different angle than the rest of the quadrant.

I can see that my stern drive is stuck right in that area. My obvious question is that do you think that the ever so slightly different angle on that part of the quadrant is enough to cause it to stop working? Is the gear system that sensitive?

Thanks.

Can't say for sure without seeing it but a crack and teeth out of plane cannot be good. Those quadrants show up on ebay quite often and are not expensive. I suggest you pick one up.

In fact, I've got one I'll give you... Shoot me an email: duke.lagroue@cedarcrestone.com

Us "stringer" people need help sometimes! :^

Incredible, thank you so much! The amount of money going into this machine is killing me, so every bit helps.

My email is on the way!

Thanks,
Matt

My wife knows all too well: B.O.A.T.

When I replaced the motor in ours, she says, "I hope nothing else goes wrong on the boat!" I laughed and said, "Honey, I won't even try to lie to you... MUCH more will go wrong... It's a boat... The sooner you accept that, the more you will be able to enjoy the time we have on it!"

Next thing that went was the outdrive! Ha!

WOW! Thanks for the gear, I got it today, it's perfect. Thanks for the t-shirt too! I'll keep you posted.

I am glad to have helped!

I'm in marketing so it's my job to give away stuff like t-shirts!

Now, go enjoy your boat! Hopefully, I'll be able to test the work I did on my outdrive today and put her in the water tomorrow!

One other thing... when I removed the old quadrant from the drive (I'm replacing the water pump), I found that the two gears around the split had widened considerably and that was preventing the tilt from working. I'll post a picture of it later. So a new gear was definitely in order.
