After reading some of the posts I realized that maybe running super in my 1990 VRO 140 was not a good idea. I have 40 gallons in the tank now. Should I scrap it, what are the problems with higher Octane? I have already run one tank through.

Not a problem. Run it and switch to the rated quality in the future.

Higher octane fuel just results in more carbon buildup in your engine over time. A tank or two won't hurt anything.

If you are worried about it, just get some decarbing chemicals and decarb the motor so you know everything is good and clean inside. If you are unsure re "decarbing", do a search on this forum and you'll probably be able to read about it for an hour or two.

Good luck!

High octane fuel is more stable under compression and will actually deposit less carbon as it burns. I also had a technical bulletin a couple of years ago that said high octane fuel from all the major distributors had a carbon dispersent in it that low and medium octane fuels lacked. Walker

They now all have the same ammount of carbon cleaning chemicals now. The biggest thing is that the high octane burns hotter, not cooler, than it used to. Although since the MTBE is gone its not as bad as it was.

Good luck!
