OD Pressure /Vacuum Tests

I am going to be re_testing mu OD this w/e. I know the pressure test is @ 15#.
How much vacuum should it hold?

Ayuh,.... Hi Tony,... Years ago, Don S mentioned to me, in a thread on this topic, that Merc uses a pressure test, where Volvo does the pressure, 'n Vacuum tests,.....

Maybe I'm wrong,... Somebody else will be along,....

Vacuum testing on a Merc is really not necessary nor recommended by Merc mainly due to the input shaft seal design. But some do it for better peace of mind. If you're going to do it then don't go past 10 Hg. 6 - 8 Hg would be more like it.

Isn't 15 psig a little high? Maybe I am wrong but I thought at that pressure the seals were forced harder and give an inaccurate indication of their ability to seal.

Pressure test should be done in 2 stages, first stage is at around 4or 5psi, second stage is 15...

Looks like my worries about a leak were just that.............worries.
OD is holding 14# like a champ.

Now I just need to re-fill and paint the bottom!!
