A friend of mine called me with a question about open containers earlier, so I got to google'in. Anyways in looking for that I ran across many other interesting laws. Very informative, yet one struck me and kinda odd.

( Once a person puts on a pair of water skis, they are subject to the same penalties as the boat captain for boating while intoxicated if caught skiing under the influence)

Is this reallly a problem? I have to say I have never heard anybody say, Oh hey there goes that drunk skiier again! haha. I understand keeping the alcohol to a reasonable level while participating in certain activities but, I am personally a little more concerned that the DRIVER ofthe boat is sober! Just seems silly that instead of common sense, people need a law to abide by...... Whats next, seat belts on bar stools.

The more WI laws they have, the better I like it.

I'm not against alcohol in the least, and will tip a few when my health permits... but too many people do too many stupid things while under the influence.

As far as I'm concerned, alcohol is for the end of the day when the vehicle keys have been put away and everything else has been done.

I tend to agree with you, jiggy. That said, the law does seem a little silly. I can understand the injuries that could be incurred when the skiier is intoxicated ... but if the captain doesn't have impaired judgement, then it is something that should never happen ...

I have to agree with that law. I don't want to be boating in a lake with a drunk skier because he is a threat to me and other boaters. Think about this, the drunk goes down in rough water and because he isn't thinking clearly he fails to hold up his ski and a boater hits him.

I have met plenty of people that dont have to be drinking to be that dumb.

Have you guys ever tried to pull a drunk skiier? Not buzzed, but really drunk? They rarely get up on 2 ski's and I've never seen one get up on a slalom. At least not behind my boat....lol

Okay.... so lets ban tubing!! Once someone is ejected off a tube, they don't have a ski to stick up in the air..... so now they are a threat to me and other boaters.

Banning tubing is fine with me! Drivers pulling tubers are rather annoying to me anyways.

Yeah, they are probably more of a threat, if you hit one it will probably ruin YOUR life for good. I am careful around tubers and give them room and if they fall off they still have that big bright tube close by to alert boaters. A fallen skier is harder to spot.

Seems to me that towing a liquored-up water skier wouldn't be exhibiting the most rational judgment....

I have been sober for over 10 years and enjoyed drinking as much as anyone can I am sure. Having said that I know now that there is just no reason WHY a person just HAS TO DRINK to enjoy the water. If a person cant have a good enough time WITHOUT drinking for a few hours he has a problem. I dont care if a person says he is just a social drinker or whatever ,when he is on a boat he needs to just forget about alcohol period.
