I will need more than one responce as I am trying to come up with some sort of average. On say a 20' toon (give or take a foot) what is the distance from the deck to the water at the stern with a "normal" load. (Reason: I am thinking of a different type of propulsion and need to see if there is room.)

There is no average since the weight of the engine and how the boat is loaded will determine what the freeboard is. However, you can go to any boat dealer or marina and check the water line on any pontoon. You will find at the very back end of the tube, the water line will be roughly in the center of the tube. Add half the diameter of the tube, the riser height, and deck thickness and you will have your answer -- for that particular pontoon. If you are thinking I/O, it's already been done. If you are thinking jet drive, it's already been done. If you are thinking jet drive inside each tube, it's already been done. If you are thinking "V" drive, I would wonder "why".

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I have seen something similiar but it was more of a deck boat. I think it was rated for 12 people and it was made by Seado although I have not seen them in years but that model was driven from the jetski so there were no remote controls.

On a pontoon there is a lot of water forced between the logs so I am not sure how the jetski will handle it. Since the pontoon is not a planing hull and the jetski is. It would be a very interesting project though. In my mind running 10-15mph would be smooth but 20+mph you would have some very interesting forces at work.

For your project I would buy a set of logs and start from scratch that way you are not limited by the original deck. It sounds like a fun project.

to be honest, they were not very successful, the sleds were very expensive, plus the cost of the jet ski. you would have more $ tied up, on a slow boat, than in a real boat.

these units had a type of rail system the gunnels of the ski locked into, then a stern lock on each side.
