Ohio boat regristration question...

I just got my boat last week and the last year it was registered was in 2003,
( sticker )

Do I need to have the old registration paperwork from the previous owner to get a new registration ? The title work is done and in my name but I was planning on waiting till after the first of the year to get it registered because it will not see the water this year.

should I expect to pay a fee or have any kind of hassle for the years it was not registered or for not having the old registration paperwork from the previous owner ?

I live in Ohio and the boat was last registered in Ohio...

Many Thanks,

flipped Title should get you going, trailer needs to be weighed, regardless, go to BMV, get form, they will tell you where, you don't have to remove boat, just tell weight company estimate of boat weight including motor.

Register the Title in your name at clerk of courts first if you haven't. Get trailer weighed, then take all papers to BMV for tags, ID#, and trailer plates.

No problems with registration. I had the same thing, just pay for your sticker. Wait until after Mar. 1 for 2014. If you have the old registration for the trailer, you can use that without haveing to weigh it. If you do need to weigh, get a slip from BMV, take it to a gravel or scrap yard and have it weighed. DO NOT goto a truck stop "CAT" scale as the BMV does not like that and the weighmaster will probably look at you funny. If you have the old registration for the boat, the old number can be used. If not, a new number will be issued. Title work must be done first, both motor and hull.

Ohio also makes you register the motor so have those numbers ready as well.

When I bought mine, I had the previous registration signed by him with the trailer registration. Had no problems.

...also since your boat's already from Ohio, it's cheaper to transfer the old OH numbers when you register, if they're still on the side of the boat.
