Ohio To Pa Registration Issue

We bought an Ohio boat and towed it home to Pennsylvania last November. Getting things ready this spring we began the task of paperwork.
Hind-sight says I should have started 2 months ago! :rolleyes:

The boat and trailer are 1979 vintage and the trailer serial # is missing. The Ohio registration for the trailer indicates ?NONE? in the ?Serial Num? field.

How much trouble is this going to be to fix?

Thanks!

well looks like Ohio cares about trailers as much as Florida does. FL only registers trailer, the state issues it an new vin. you need to call PA authorities. you have the Ohio regs. they should accept it.

If you purchased your boat new, call the dealer and they can call the trailer manufacturer to get the vin/serial number and send you a sticker (may cost you a few bucks). Before you do that, call AAA and ask them what your options are...One of their PA locations that deals with registration can be reached with this number:

Thanks for the replies.

No the boat is far from new. Boat & Trailer are 1979 vintage. This is where the problem lies.
They didn't have vin numbers on trailers then. Though there was a serial number on a tag alas it is weathered and not readable.
Pennsylvania is requesting that I;

1. Obtain on Ohio letter head the fact that they did register this trailer. (They want a notarized request before they will send me anything)
2. Provide inspection by State Police to ensure it is not stolen.
3. Using the above, Pa will apply a vin # and issue a tag.

All this will come at $$ expense and time. They estimate 2 months.
That said, they've given me some assurance that if I keep copies of everything with me until the new tag arrives, I could tow the boat the short distance to and from the launch.

Another Murphy lesson as I should have begun this process back when the snow was flying:mad: I've learned a thing or 2 and wont be making this mistake again...
