I checked the oil level on my '95 4.3 L after the shop changed the oil and it was right at "add". I added 10 ounces of oil, rechecked the oil and now it shows well above the "full" mark (about an inch). I can't see how adding 10 ounces of oil would do that. Will it hurt the engine?

Re: Oil above fill line

Are you sure that the dipstick was all of the way in the first time you checked the oil? I don't know how much difference an inch will make but overfilled oil can foam and lose lubrication. It probably won't hurt anything but if you're worried, suck it out thru the dipstick hole with one of those little pumps. A good marine gas dock will have a pump set up to that as well. I would probably run it like that but if you're worrying about it the boating won't be any fun.

Micky G, Have you ran the engine, after they changed the oil. I, also can't see how 10 oz of Oil can bring up the level 1 inch. The reason I ask if you have ran the engine, if you have, check that oil on the dipstick, smell it. Make sure your not getting any other fluids into the oil. If the smell or color is off, You may have another problem!

Just one of GodsBeast's
