Amsoil is not a additive, and I think that additives along with the oil one choises to use in their engine needs to be the product that they feel the most comfortable with, in other words what ever blows up your skirt  :p :D --Bob

I have never understood why anyone would use an oil additive.
My assumption was that all motor oils are produced with the necessary additives, and it is up to the vehicle owner to make sure that oil changes are done in a timely manner, also to use in your vehicle the recomended type of oil that is prescribed by the manufacturer.

Having run many different kinds of motors in many different kinds of vehicles I can honestly say that never once did I have a failure that could in even the slightest way be attributed to using run-of-the-mill motor oil.

Maybe there is a drawback to using Shop Rite brand motor oil in my lawn mower, but I can't tell.

Maybe I should'nt get my Lincoln's oil changed at the Jiffy Lube, but at 104,000 miles, you can look right at the over head cam and head throught the oil fill opening and they are spanking clean. And it uses about 1/2 quart after 3000 miles.

My father worked for Exxon as a chemical and mechanical engineer almost his entire career. He was mostly involved with the machines and processes that "crack" the crude into verious lighter products. 20 years ago he used to tell me I was wasting my money buying Castrol GTX motor oil, and to just buy the cheaper stuff from the auto parts store. I tend to think he was right.

The motor oil you can buy at NAPA or Shop Rite is actually a pretty amazing product, all things considered.

He was right.

There is truth to what you are saying, NAPA oils are just repackaged Valvoline. I use the High Mileage NAPA 20W-50 oil in my wifes Mazda RX/7.

The SuperTech line up at Wally World is a good bargain. hey, there Synthetic is very near the same as Castrol Syn-Tech and you pay about half the price for it.

If you are a 3,000 mile oil drain guy, you can get away with the low priced spread.
