On my new to me 1992 XR6 there is no start up beep.Everything appears to be hooked up properly.I read on another thread that there should be 12v on the white wire going to the oil pump motion sensor. There is no voltage on the white wire. There is 12v at the terminal strip on the purple wire that goes to the module.Am I correct by saying I need a new warning module?
Thanks,Jeff

Re: Oil alarm module question

On the terminal next to the purple wire is the tan alarm output wire. Ground that momentarily with the key on. If the alarm beeps, the module is bad. The module should pull that to ground for 4 pulses or so on power up no matter what the sensors are doing. If when you ground it there is no sound, the alarm circuit is bad. A meter should measure 12V there, also when the alarm is not sounding.

Check the ground on the module before you get too excited, but it sounds like it's bad. One of the wires to the motion sensor should be at 12V, and the other one should be at either 5V, or very near 0V, depending on the position of the magnet in the bushing.

hope it helps

Re: Oil alarm module question

A good used one off'n any carb or EFI motor can be spliced to fit in and work fine. They tend to just die like this in storage because the potting is junk.

Color code and connectors might be different. On the EFI one, there's an extra wire spliced to the oil tank low level sensor wire that goes to the water separator. Just cut it off.

hope it helps

I got a good used module and put it on tonight. It seems to be working because now when I turn the key on it beeps now. While it is running there are no beeps so I suppose that means the oil mixer is working.I am running mixed gas and it does smoke quite a bit.Is it alright to now run straight gas through it now.I am only running it in my driveway in a tub. When I take it to the lake I plan on running mixed gas just in case til I make sure the level in the remote oil tank is moving.
Thanks,Jeff

Re: Oil alarm module question

If you really want to test it, do these things.

1. Disconnect the wire to the oil tank and ground it.
......key on, power on test beeps.
......start, oil alarm after a few seconds.

2. Re-connect the oil tank and disconnect the green wire on the switchbox.
.....key on, power on test beeps.
.....start, oil alarm after a few seconds.

The power on self test checks for the presence of the motion detector, so yer good to go.

hope it helps
