I recently bought a boat with a 1995 115hp Johnson. We had it out yesterday and while running at WOT the rapid alarm starting going off telling me it was not getting enough oil. At lower speeds it was fine for the most part accept on one occassion while we were just idling picking up crab traps it started to go off again. I put some oil in the gas to mix and avoid doing any damage and for the rest of the day the alarm stayed off. I looked at all the connections and know i had half a tank of oil as well. Anyone know where i should start or what might be the culprit?

Re: Oil Alarm?

Couple things to look at Crabahoy...empty the oil tank and clean it out and replace the oil sock. Its' a filter at the bottom of the oil pick up in the tank. You can get a new one at any John/Rude dealer.

When re-priming the oil line, squeeze the primer bulb until you get a good flow of oil from the oil supply line and then connect it to the nipple on the engine pan. This gets the air outta' the line.

Recheck the oil lines to the pump inside the engine pan. Make sure all connections are tight and can't suck air.

Good move putting oil in the gas..... :)
