I am new to this outboard thing. I need to figure out how to mix the gas/oil. I understand from other posts it's a 50:1 mix. 50 percent gas to 1 what of oil. I have a 29 gallon fuel tank I just purchased and need to figure out how much oil to put in when I fill it up.
Don't need to burn up motor first time out.
I was thinking 29 gallons to 2 pints or quarts of oil.

Thanks for your help :(

Howdy, Capt. G.

Steelspike is correct. In the unlikely event that you had an empty tank you would need 2 1/3 quarts of oil. You will probably do that once a year or maybe once, period.

The 50:1 ratio means 50 units of gas to 1 unit of oil. The units can be gallons, quarts or pints. Just be sure you know that for every 50 pints of gas (roughly 6 gallons) you add 1 pint of oil.

Good luck. :)

Thanks guys and yes I will be starting with a brand new completely empty fuel tank.

Paid $48 for a 29 gallon plastice below deck fuel tank..I plan to use it in the rear under deck section of my boat behind my rear seats.

Most marina's have premixed gas/oil right? or do I still need to mix it??

Lots of marinas have premix but I've never trusted them. You don't know how old it is or if it's really 50:1. I'll roll my own.

c/6

Hooty
