Yup it's finally warm in the south. Took my Maxum boat out to the lake Friday April 30th for the first time this season. I got out several miles from the dock, removed the engine cover only to discover an oil water mix on the right side of the engine. I pulled the dipstick and it showed the same results milky shade of oil and water. This is what I get for letting a friend winterize the boat for me. It did appear to me that the intake manifold was bubbling at the top that perhaps the oil water mix was coming from. Could this be as simple as an intake manifold gasket? Oh i've got a 1989 3.0 Mercruiser I/O.
The head gasket area looks dry, so i'm thinking it's either a bad intake manifold gasket or a cracked block. I guess i need to take it somewhere and get a compression check test ran. any idea? anyone got a block for sale? lol
Cheers
PS i'm going to sale her soon and get a sail boat...

Re: Oil and Water

Howdy,

Could this be as simple as an intake manifold gasket?
Probably not.

Manifold cracks or gasket leaks don't usually provide a path for water to the oil.......neither do head gaskets (usually).....

Look for cracks on the outside of the block up under the manifold and under the panel that covers the lifters/pushrods.....

You need to pressurize the block and determine if you have a leak in the cooling system. Use compressed air and you'll hear the leaks if they exist.

If you find cracks your only good option is replace the block...

PS i'm going to sale her soon and get a sail boat...
If you don't fix it....please tell the buyer about the problem......

Cheers,

Rick
