Oil Baffle in OMC 5.7

I received a GM 5.7 liter marine engine to replace my cracked 1987 OMC 5.7 liter. The OMC had an oil baffle installed on the end of extended crankshaft studs. Couple of quick questions:

1) Is is important to replace the oil baffle?

2) What should I torque the crankshaft bolts to when I swap out the studs?

3) Can I leave the baffle off and expect the engine to not get gummed up?

Any other useful suggestions?

CB, I would put the baffle in. One of its jobs is to prevent the spinning crank from wipping the oil into a foam when you are at a high bow angle. There is more to be gained by adding it than there is by leaving it out.

Mains should be torqued to 95 ftlbs

Syd,

How's your rebuilt 5.7L running? I read that post and, wow, hope I don't have anywhere near that kind of trouble.
