Re: Oil Change Pump

Thats a great one if you want to spend that kind of money.I bought a topside iol changer for 39$ on sale and I have to pump it about 25 times and the vacuum it creates does the rest. The one you are looking at requires ZERO effort. As I said thats the one to get if you dont mind spending the extra bucks.I installed an electric pump in my last boat.It connected to the oil pan drain permanently and ran up to a pump on the transom.Pressed 1 button and the oil was removed in about 5 minutes. That to me was the ultimate!!! I like the Tempo 5 qrt vacuum pump. It's a hand pump and costs about $55. Can be used on your car or other toys also.

I use the Jabsco drill pump and it works just great for me. I have an oil change container that I use for the cars that I put the output into and for the most part its a pretty clean operation. I think the drill pump is only $15 or so..

Re: Oil Change Pump

i'm with KM2 on the Tempo....pump it a few times and the suction keeps pulling oil out. it holds the oil for you, too...no keeping a separate container in the correct position and not spilling.

the drill pumps are a pain, in my opinion. the pump gets hot in your hand, you have to hold it so the torque from the drill doesn't spin it around like a top. if that happens, you've got oil flinging all over the place (been there). with the drill pump, you also have to be careful so the line to the pump and the line to whatever container you're using don't come apart. then, again, you have to keep and eye or feet on the separate container so it doesn't get away from you. when you're done you have the container, the drill with its hoses, perhaps an extension cord....with the Tempo, you have one line to worry about and the oil is self-contained.

the drill pump impellors will eventually go bad, too.
