Get 4 feet of hose small enough to go through your drain plug hole (in the transome) and big enough to fit over the valve. Install the valve and you have a very easy way to change your oil when the boat is on the trailer.
That is the slowest possible way of changing oil known to man.
Even if warm it just dribbles out.
Besides, on his engine, the dipstick tube is attached to the bottom of the pan, if it's removed, he would have no dipstick.
Mercruiser does use those hoses, no valve required. I just remove the plug from the hose and use the pump on the hose.
