dark blue or black oil, smells faintly of gasoline? unburnt engine oil, it happens from time to time. Read about cleaning the carbon build-up out of your motor: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158076

from the quantity you described, I'm pretty sure that's it, but if you aren't sure, drain the gearcase and look for water. the gear oil I use is amber -- you'd have to leave it in for years to turn it black. It needs to be changed annually.

Thank you for your reply. I just drained my gear case and there is no water in the oil that came out. I had just replaced the water pump about 3 weeks ago and went out on the water the following week and it was not pumping water good enough so i took the boat back to the dealer that replaced the pump and he tested it in a tank. He said i most likely picked up some sea weed or grass that pluged my port. I brought it back and made a tank for myself and tried it and it pumped ok. I did not know if maybe that caused some other problem.

My 2 cents - Unburned oil. My Evinrude would do that all the time, especially if I drove the boat at low RPMs for a long time (example = trolling, long no wake zones etc). I found that if after a long time of low RPMs, if I opened up the throttle for a few minutes before going in, the drip from the prop would not happen. If the gear lube was good with no water, you are probably ok.

100% normal, especially on a motor that is only run occasionally.
