Oil comsumption

I just purchased a Mercury 90 HP Saltwater edition outboard motor and have about 5 hours on it. This is the first Mercury I have owned. What can I expect as far as oil comsumption? At the end of the first two 6 gallons tanks of fuel the warning buzzer went off. I immediately checked the oil reservoir and had to add 3 quarts of oil. I called the marina and they assured me that it would have been full of oil when I took delivery a week earlier. Also, those first 5 hours the speed was fluxuated as the manufacturer suggested (generally running around 3000/3500rpms and never once wide open). I would appreciate any imput.

I just bought a 2003 75HP Merc. I used two quarts in 5 hours, so you sound about right. Maybe the dealer didn't fill it all the way, and they just told you they did so you wouldn't say anything.
