Oil cooler leak on a AQ170 Volvo Penta

I have a leak on the intake tube of my oil cooler. I tried to relace the sealing ring with an O ring and also used a little form a gasket to help seal it . The following day it did not leak, but as soon as I brought it to the lake to test it out it started spraying water out and over heated the engine. Luckly I shut it down quick enough and no damage done. How can I get this to stop leaking??? Thank you for any advice.

The water side of the oil cooler may be clogged up and not letting water flow through it, causing a back pressure .
