1994 volvo penta 3.0 gl mmda. Went to change oil for 1st time. (new to me boat) And when I removed the oil evac tube plug the tube is very loose it will swing down or up either way. Is this the way its designed or do I have a problem?

Changed oil today. 1 hr. to pull all oil out with small electric pump. PIA. Engine access is tight so I can't see where tube goes into block, but no oil in bilge. Assuming this is the way its designed but would like confirmation before getting stuck on water. Anyone?

The tube should not be loose in the block. It should be a press fit. And no not a dumb question, you asked for information, and no one replied. I just saw your post tonight, and I check on twice a day.

Afraid of that... Access is very limited. Any idea how to fix? Do I have to pull the engine to fix this?

The tube threads into a fitting on the bottom of the pan where a drain plug would normally be. It should have some sort of retainer that clamps the tube to the block but I may be wrong.

Did you use a pump that threads into the hose fitting on top of the tube? If not, that is why it took so long. The pumps that use a slender tube that goes down inside the dipstick tube are worthless..

1. So the square fitting I see in the schematic is threaded into the old oil drain plug hole on the pan and the tube is threaded and screwed into that similar to a brake line fitting but larger. Hopefully I can just tighten that by feel and the o ring is not the problem. Now to get access.

2. I used a pump where you snake the small tube through the large oil evac tube. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I think I can make something up to adapt hose to garden hose fitting or I might just change the whole system to the type you mount to the old drain plug and pull the hose out the bilge drain to gravity drain oil to the outside of boat.
