Hello,
I bought a boat that has oil filter stuck I guess the previous owner has not changed the filter for a long while. I tried all kinds of tools but it would not budge. Right now the filter is no longer round and many punctures from the process....

someone please give me some tips on how to get this thing out please

thank you

I do not know what engine your working on or how hard it is to get to the filter, but the silly question is you are turning it the right way?

usually a strap wrench. however once in a while a filter gets to the point where a large channel locks and a few 4 and 5 letter words are uttered.

You could stick a big *** screwdriver straight through it and then turn.

Re: oil filter remove tips help

I try to replace all the fluid today but did not make it before the sun went down.....I could not locate the coolant reservoir for some reason can one of the expert tell me where to look?.....may be tomorrow I try again. my engine is Mercruiser 94 5.0 Serial 0F153370. This afternoon I went to autozone trying to get some spark plug, they dont have any irridium spark plug so I picked up the only available compatible plug which is copper I installed them anyway and will replace them with the real stuff after the season is over hopefull it wont run the engine..\

The screw driver trick works by the way ... thanks

Who told you to run iridium plugs? That's just wrong... The right plugs for that engine are NGK BR6FS or AC-MR43T... Unless you have closed cooling, then there is no coolant reservoir (unless you call the ocean a 'reservoir'... :D)

I came across one filter that i had to cut open all the way down to the oring. fotunatly it had the filter moved so it was easy to get to.
But that filter for sure wasent tightened by hand. If its easy to get to one thing you can try if all other options went bad is to get a thin sawwire or a thin pianowire and saw through the oring ONLY all the way around then you can probably easy spin it of.

Try gluing a strip of sandpaper to the inside of the oil filter wrench so it does not slip on the filter.
