OK. I should have gotten a life after version 2, but I didn't listen. ;) I have reformatted the study, given it its own domain, added about a dozen filters, and retested all the media.

If you are using a non-Merc filter, be careful about running one that has less flow than the Merc.

www.OilFilterStudy.com

Naw, all you need is the Fram PF-13 or PF-5 for the Chevy engines & the equilivilent for the others, I forgot the Ford numbers, PH-8?. You can't beat a Fram filter for air or oil. Just go to the local parts store, K-Mart or Wal Mart & get what they have, Fram wise. Don't overpay for nothing. This is right up there with synthetic oil. Don't waste your money.

I have a friend with a Dodge diesel truck (and about $40,000 worth of aftermarket trans, turbo etcc).. He is really into oil and filters.

He is the one that told me "never use Fram". Who am I to disagree.

Plus I found some studys on the internet, The best filter was Mobile-1, second was Purolator (of course, they ranked them by about 10 different criteria, so you be the judge).

I run Purolator-PureOne on my boat engines, and Delo 400 oil (only cause I chage it every fall before storage.. otherwise, I would use a good synthetic)

-david

Re: Oil Filter Study -- Version 3

all this filter talk is cool but no one has considered that the filter only sees about 10%of what the oil pump is putting out. the rest goes directly into the oil gallies via the oil filter bypass valve. . something to think about :)
good luck and keep posting
