OK since my boat now runs awsome (thanks to all whole helped me last fall) I thought I would come back and see if you all could help once more. <br /><br />It's time to get things ready for the summer and I'm going to change the oil this weekend, only trouble is I don't want to drive to a "boat" shop to get a new filter. Is there a cross refrence guide on the web I can look at or someone who would know what filter I need? I have a 1967 Seaswirl with a 120hp mercruiser I/O (chevy four banger from what I have read) <br /><br />I know some people don't like fram but that's what I use in all my vehicles and have for years so if someone could get me that number it would rock. <br /><br />Thanks

Re: Oil filter?

Your favorite autoparts store will have a listing for that filter. They list marine applications in their books.

Re: Oil filter?

Baldwin has a good lookup on their site:<br /><br />http://catalog.baldwinfilter.com/LoadParts.asp?URL=DisplayPartInfoNew.asp&Appln_No=15333&VehicleRef=2&Year=&Desc=120&Manufacturer=MERCRUISER&Make=Marine&Catalog=ApplCoverage&Model= 120<br /><br />That shows the B360 which is the same as the current V8 Merc, I4, and remote mount V6's.<br /><br />The auto equivalents of the Merc short fat filter are: Napa / Napa Gold 1086; WIX 51086; Purolator L24736.<br /><br />Of course, this isn't taking into consideration a 1967, so I would double check at your autoparts store.<br /><br />What filter is on it today?

...but a fram filter isn't worth it's weight in feces. ;)

Re: Oil filter?

NAPA can match up your old filter with a new one. Auto Zone is lost when it comes to boats...

Re: Oil filter?

I just changed the oil in my 1988 5.7 L Mercruiser and I replaced the Fram PH30 oil filter with a Fram PH5 (that is what the auto parts store recommended). They look identical does anyone know the difference between the two?

Ever seen the inside of a Fram? The construction is far inferior to just about any other filter...and you can get plenty of other filters for the same price or less. There are several cases of engine damage from a failed fram filter. There is simply no reason what so ever to buy one when there are so many other choices for the same price....
