hey guys
I have a 1974 140hp Rude. I don't know what the mix ratio is for it. I have been using a 50:1 ratio for about 36 gallons now. Results listed below.
I have noticed that the air intake and whole engine for that matter has a slight oil film on it, and I have fouled 3 sets of plugs in 3 weeks.
So my question is as follows, am I using to much oil? Or is there something else that I don't know about. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Re: oil gas mix

Oil mix is right JR. I'd look at other things like good spark at each plug. Is the engine up to temp when running?

Sounds like a new engine to you. Can you tell us any history about it like last maint on the carbs or wtr pump impeller?

yes it is a new to me. My uncle sold me the boat with the motor on it, all he told me was that a "few" years ago he had the top end replaced with a top end from a 1986 motor.

The engine is up to temp and there is good spark on all 4 plugs as far as any main to the carbs or wtr pmp impeller i couldn't tell you.

If the motor sat for any length of time, you will need to remove, clean and rebuild the carbs, service the water pump and the lower unit, at the least.
