Oil/Gas Mix ?

Hi again, Rookie question> I have a 1984 Bayliner with an 85HP Force Outboard. Does this motor need an oil/gas mix or can it just be run with straight gas. I added the 50:1 oil/gas ratio yet when I start up the motor it smokes a heck of a lot and it idles a little rough (sputtering). I changed the gas tanks to using straight gas and it sounds better, little to no smoke, and no sputtering. I am now wondering if I even needed an oil/mix in my fuel.

Also What octane gas should I be using?

Any suggestions on either question ?

you NEED to mix oil in the gas. RIGHT NOW!! Any octane will work.

If you run with no oil, you will have no motor.

hope you didnt run it long. no oil in it for more than a minute or two youll be hammering out pistons. like running to work with no oil in your car. 2 stroke engines smoke. just how it is. do NOT run it again with no oil or you will be paddeling your vessel.

Wow, you're a real tough guy! I hope you have enough money for a new motor or maybe for a used one!

Jiggz, Like I said, ROOKIE Question, which is why I am using forums. Ill add oil to the gas, I think I just put too much in last time. As far as being a tough guy, come up to Plaistow NH and lets see who the tough guy is !!

Decarbing the engine is a good idea.
Can also switch to synthetic TCW3 oil for less smoke.

Its possible the previous owner had too much oil in the fuel tank.
