Hey guys, Just opened the boat up for the first this year and everything looked great. That was until I opened up the engine cover and noticed oil in the bilge. The motor is a 1972 mercruiser 888 (ford 302). I winterized the motor properly ( like I have done the past 7 years). I did not put it on muffs to draw anti-freeze through the motor. I completely drained the block, the manifolds, and the risers. It also got new oil, filter, water separator, plugs, wires, and cap and rotor. I did put some marine antifreeze in the manifolds. I just pulled the dip stick and there is water in the pan. Could water have gotten into the bilge and then into the oil. Boat had cover and tarp on it all winter. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks guys. Tim

Water has been known to enter thru the carb if the cover is compromised, Other than that are you sure you drained the block completely?

Yes drained the block completely. Reamed all drain holes with a piece of wire. I am wondering if bilge got water in it and it freezed around oil pan.

You really want to check where the oil is coming from. And make sure you don't run your motor without oil or with water mixed up with oil. Happen to me while in the water and end up blowing up my motor. Check the gasket that connects the back of the motor with the stern drive.
