the other day, shortly after starting my 2000 Evinrude 50 hp outboard motor it died & wouldn’t start. Today, I started troubleshooting and decided to drain the carb float bowls. Much to my surprise the liquid that came out of the float bowls was mostly oil (motor has oil injection). What would cause a high concentration of oil in the float bowls of an oil injected motor.
Once again : Year: 2000
Make: Evinrude
HP: 50
Has carbs and has oil injection
thanks for your help,

You realize that most oil injected outboards have the oil mixed with the gas automatically, right? It is not true oil injection into the motor. There is an OMS pump on the front of the motor that adds the oil to the gasoline supply, just before the carbs.

Extra oil in the carbs can be due to a gasoline line air leak, causing the OMS pump to add extra oil to the gasoline. Also, gasoline evaporates, leaving the oil behind.
